RILEY LLAMAS HERB PROGRAM

The program that we use for llamas during the last four weeks of pregnancy is:

  1. 4 ounces of herb mix (this can be measured by using a standard one cup cooking measure cup which holds 4 oz. of herbs when filled to the brim). You need one cooking cup per day per llama.
**Note alpacas get 2 oz. of herbs per day**
  2. Generally an alpaca diet will be about ½ that required for a llama.
  3. 1 ½ lb. Llama supplement. We use Mazuri Crumbles
  4. ¼ lb. washed rolled oats
  5. ¼ lb. Cracked corn

Mix all of the ingredients well before feeding. We use a wooden spatula for mixing. Keep the unused herbs in a dry cool location.

This mix includes dill, caraway, fennel, and fenugreek seeds along with chopped and shifted basil leaves. We have removed red raspberry leaves from the mix as it can cause uterine relaxation and can prolong delivery and as a result the measurement volume is less.

Ten pounds per llama or 5 pounds per alpaca should provide treatment for 40 days. We start 3-4 weeks before the expected due date and continue until all of the herbs are used.
